Script (Ktav)
Arizal
Also known as Ari, Ari-Zal, HaAri, Ktav Ari, Ksav Ari

A script tradition associated with Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, the Arizal, and commonly followed in Chassidic and Nusach Sefard communities. Ktav Arizal uses distinctive Kabbalistic letter forms and should not be treated as interchangeable with the Alter Rebbe script followed in Chabad communities. Consult your rabbi when family custom matters.

Quality Tier
Mehudar (Superior)

A more carefully prepared kosher mezuzah scroll with an elevated standard of hiddur, the beautification of the mitzvah. The mehudar designation reflects finer letter formation, spacing, klaf, and overall presentation rather than a different standard of basic kosher validity.

Compared with Basic Kosher: more refined and consistent letter formation, stronger spacing, finer klaf selection, and a more beautiful overall presentation, written by our most experienced sofrim.

How it's checked
The scroll is examined, not just written.A magiah is a qualified examiner of sacred writing, trained to inspect every Hebrew letter, its shape, and the spacing around it. Writing a scroll and checking a scroll are two separate skills, and both are required for it to be kosher.
הִדּוּר מִצְוָה
Good to know
Beautifying the mitzvah.Hiddur mitzvah is the principle of performing a commandment beautifully, not merely acceptably. Handmade parchment, finer letter formation, and a more experienced scribe are all forms of hiddur: going beyond the minimum to honor the mitzvah itself.

The Mehudar (Superior) Ari-Zal Mezuzah Scroll is handwritten in Israel on genuine kosher klaf by a certified sofer STaM. Written according to the Ari-Zal script tradition, this 5-Inch (12 cm) parchment is intended for customers whose family or community follows Ari-based Chassidic or Kabbalistic letter forms.

The scroll contains the complete passages of Shema and Vehaya im shamoa and is guaranteed to be 100% Kosher. Its mehudar designation reflects the care, consistency, spacing, letter formation, klaf, and overall presentation of the writing rather than a different level of basic kosher validity.

Ari-Zal ksav is associated with the teachings and tradition of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, known as the Arizal. It should not automatically be treated as interchangeable with the distinctive Alter Rebbe script followed in Chabad communities.

Mehudar Ari-Zal Ksav

Ksav (כְּתָב, script or writing) describes the traditional formation of the Hebrew letters. Ari-Zal letter forms reflect an established mystical and Chassidic writing tradition while preserving the same required Torah text found in other kosher mezuzah scrolls.

The differences among Ari-Zal, Beis Yosef (Ashkenaz), Vellish, and Alter Rebbe writing can be seen more clearly in our guide to mezuzah lettering styles.

Customers following Chabad minhag should generally select a scroll written in the Alter Rebbe tradition rather than assuming Ari-Zal and Chabad script are identical. Compatible Chabad options are organized with our Chabad mezuzah scrolls.

100% Kosher and Carefully Reviewed

The parchment is handwritten by a certified sofer STaM and then checked through both computer-assisted review and expert human examination. Every letter must remain properly formed, separate where required, correctly ordered, and written with appropriate ink on kosher klaf.

The term mehudar (מְהֻדָּר, enhanced or beautifully fulfilled) describes an elevated standard of workmanship and presentation. It does not imply that a less expensive scroll sold by Mezuzah Store is not fully kosher.

The reasons Jewish communities follow different script traditions are discussed in our guide to different types of mezuzah scrolls.

Case Compatibility and Proper Care

The flat parchment measures exactly 4 3/4 inches tall by 4 7/8 inches wide. It is grouped within the 5-Inch size class for simpler case matching.

Choose a mezuzah case specifically rated for a 5-Inch or 12 cm scroll. The klaf must never be folded, trimmed, crushed, pinched, or forced into a chamber that is too small.

When purchased with a compatible case, Mezuzah Store can carefully roll, protect, and insert the parchment. Customers comparing other sizes and traditions can review our complete selection of Kosher Mezuzah Scrolls.

The handwritten Jewish Door Scroll is the sacred component of the mezuzah, while the exterior case protects it and presents it on the doorway.

This Ari-Zal Mezuzah Scroll features "crisp writing" on "lovely, multi-toned skin." Customers praised the "beautiful" scroll and "speedy delivery." However, concerns include refund processing issues and unwanted lucite holders being shipped. One customer reported sizing challenges. Positive feedback highlights "great service" and quality products.

Thank you so much for the five-star review, and for sharing these beautiful photos of the mezuzah affixed at your home’s entryway. The Jerusalem stone mezuzah looks wonderful in place, and it is especially meaningful to see it holding one of our most Mehudar Ari-style mezuzah scroll. We’re honored that this scroll became part of such an important doorway in your home, and we hope it brings lasting blessing and meaning for many years to come.

They Will Not Refund Your Money, Shop Elsewhere

I ordered a scroll to replace a damaged one in a Mezuzah I have; I also ordered the Lucite Cover (not realizing it was an actual full size clear case). At the time, they did not list the size of the scroll and it turned out to be much too big for what I need.
I sent an email explaining; they called and said to send it back for a refund. I know it arrived May 15th through the tracking number. Not only have they NOT refunded my money but have ghosted me and have not responded to the 2 emails I sent. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint against them.

Their Refund Policy states: “We want you to be 100% happy with your purchase.  If you don't like it for any reason, just ship it back to us with a note telling us that you would like a refund.  We will refund your card for the full purchase amount (minus the shipping).”

This is not the truth, they are liars and thieves; do not give these dirt-bags any of your money. There are other ethical stores out there that won’t rip off fellow Jews.

Thanks but no thanks

You keep bugging me for a review so here goes.I only ordered the scrolls(2).I did not ask for u to put in a holder.Clearly stated on the order no thanks to the holder. Was a job and a half to crack open the(ugly) lucite holders and get the scroll out without damaging it.And not damage myself with the lucite cracking all over the place.Still not sure if i got all the pieces from the floor. In the future do what you are asked..Not sure now if you were trying to conceal the scrolls from me inspecting them.??

Arrived quickly! Easy order process!

Product arrived quickly and was very easy purchase process. I haven't opened the scroll yet to look at the words, but from the outside it looks like good quality.

Looks great on my office door!

One issue I wasn't 100% happy with:

The clear plastic cases that I bought with the mezuzas were not great quality. The issue was the size of the holes where screws/ nails are placed so the mezzuza can
