The Alter Rebbe (Superior) Gassot Chabad Tefillin Set with Rashi order is our finest Chabad pair, built for the one who wants to keep the mitzvah of tefillin (תְּפִלִּין, phylacteries) at the very highest level of hiddur. Every detail is chosen for beauty, strength, and halachic stringency: substantial 42 mm gassot batim in the Chabad 4x4 size, perudos compartments closed with the Chabad dalet knot, hand-worked straps, and parshiyos written by a sofer who specializes in ksav Alter Rebbe.
This is the primary pair, written in the Rashi order laid each weekday. It is a set meant to be worn b'kedushah for generations, im yirtzeh Hashem, and given over to a son or grandson after.

Alter Rebbe Gassot Tefillin in the 42 mm Chabad 4x4 Size
These batim (בָּתִּים, leather boxes) measure a full 42 mm, the larger size known in the Chabad world as 4x4, chosen for its beauty and for the stringency that larger, fully-formed letters allow. Each box must be perfectly square, meruba, on its titura (תִּיתּוֹרָא, the wide base), a shape only true gassot leather can hold.
Because each box is gassot, pressed from one thick piece of hide, it holds that square for generations and can be re-blackened and repaired for generations rather than discarded. The full craft behind a single box is humbling to see in how gassot batim are made.
Perudos Batim and the Chabad Dalet Knot
The shel rosh is perudos (פְּרוּדוֹת, separated), its four compartments fully divided and reinforced with gid (גִּיד, sinew), the most mehudar way to build a head-box. It is closed with the Chabad dalet knot, tied in the precise form this minhag has preserved for generations.
The retzuos (רְצוּעוֹת, straps) are avodas yad (עֲבוֹדַת יָד, hand-worked) and blackened by hand on both sides al pi halacha. Straps worthy of the boxes they secure, they carry the same standard of hiddur through every part of the set.
Ksav Alter Rebbe by a Specialist Sofer STaM
The letters are ksav Alter Rebbe, the script of the Alter Rebbe himself, and this pair is written by a sofer who specializes in it rather than a general hand. That expertise shows in the tagin, the small crowns atop the letters, and in the precise form of every os, written on genuine klaf (קְלָף, parchment), the same sacred material as our kosher mezuzah scrolls.
Because a single mistake in tefillin can affect kashrus, every pair is first reviewed by a certified sofer STaM and then computer-checked letter by letter, so nothing at this level is ever left to chance.
Rashi Tefillin, the Primary Daily Pair
This Rashi set is the primary pair, laid each weekday morning. It stands complete on its own, and for the one whose minhag is to also don a second pair, it should be kept clearly separate so the two are never confused.
The matching Alter Rebbe Rabbeinu Tam tefillin complete the pair for those who wear both, and our guide to tefillin checking explains how to protect a set of this caliber for years to come.
A Chabad Tefillin Set for Generations, Custom-Fit for You
A pair at this level is often a purchase for generations or a milestone gift for a bar mitzvah or a chosson. Families keeping the minhag throughout the home will also find matching Chabad mezuzahs, and our wider range of Chabad tefillin sits together for easy comparison.
Because fit and comfort matter on a set worn every day, we are glad to help size it before it ships. Mezuzah Store is a family-owned Judaica shop, and it is our privilege to offer Chabad tefillin at this standard.
What's Inside Your Tefillin
