They say everything is bigger in Texas. This one-of-a-kind 26" Jerusalem stone mezuzah case was made as a playful tribute to the Texas Mezuzah Law and the right to place a mezuzah on the doorway. This extra large mezuzah cover is a true statement piece, carved from natural stone and designed for anyone who appreciates bold Judaica with a story behind it.

A Texas-Sized Mezuzah With a Real Story

Over the years, we have followed many stories about condominium boards and homeowners associations trying to restrict mezuzahs on doors. These stories are frustrating because a mezuzah is not just a decoration. It is a mitzvah (מִצְוָה, commandment) and one of the clearest signs of Jewish life at the entrance of a home.

In 2011, Texas passed what became known as the Mezuzah Law, protecting the right to display religious items, including mezuzot (מְזוּזוֹת, mezuzahs), on residential doorways. Since Governor Rick Perry signed the law, we decided to create a large, Texas-style mezuzah in his honor.

To make the point in true Texas fashion, we commissioned this mezuzah at 26" tall, one inch taller than the size protected by the law. It was our way of having a little fun while also pointing out how strange it is that a law should be needed to protect something as basic as a mezuzah on a Jewish doorway.

Made From Jerusalem Stone in Israel

This mezuzah was handmade in Israel from one solid piece of Jerusalem stone. Its natural stone texture gives it a strong, grounded presence, while the oversized scale turns it into a conversation piece for a prominent doorway, office, display area, or Judaica collection.

Scroll Guidance

This product is the outer mezuzah case. To fulfill the mitzvah properly, it should be paired with a kosher mezuzah scroll written on klaf (קְלָף, parchment) by a certified sofer STaM (סוֹפֵר סת״ם, Jewish scribe).

The case can be large, beautiful, and meaningful, but the scroll inside is the heart of the mitzvah. If you want to understand what makes a scroll valid, our guide on what makes a mezuzah kosher explains the difference between a real kosher scroll and a printed or invalid one.

A Mezuzah Case With a Sense of Humor

The Rick Perry Mezuzah was never meant as a political endorsement. MezuzahStore.com does not endorse political candidates or take sides as a company. This mezuzah was created as a lighthearted response to the Texas Mezuzah Law and as a reminder that Jewish residents should not need to fight for the right to place a mezuzah on their own doorway.

If you want the full backstory, including the surprising reaction from our Texas email list, read our blog post about the Rick Perry Mezuzah story.

Choosing a Mezuzah for a Prominent Doorway

This piece is intentionally oversized, so it is not the right fit for every doorway. For a more traditional home entrance, browse our full collection of mezuzah cases. For questions about apartment, condo, or HOA restrictions, our article on whether a condo or HOA can ban a mezuzah gives more context.

Certified Kosher Mezuzah Scrolls

Scrolls for Mezuzahs

The scroll is the heart and soul of the mezuzah, so it is essential that it be 100% certified kosher. Our Mezuzah scrolls are carefully handwritten on genuine calfskin parchment by certified Torah scribes, known as Sofrim.

After being examined with specialized computer software to detect scribal errors, every scroll is personally reviewed by our in-house Sofer to ensure that it meets the strict halachic standards of a 100% kosher mezuzah scroll.
