Warm brown aluminum gives this outdoor mezuzah case a clean, modern look that settles into wood doors, stained frames, and darker painted trim rather than standing out against them. As a mezuzah cover it is minimal and durable, with a bottom opening and a sealed scroll chamber built to keep weather out.

Made in Israel from aluminum, this mezuzah holder is for anyone who wants something simple, fully waterproof, and unobtrusive. Brown is the finish to reach for when white or polished silver would compete with the doorframe. For exterior placements it belongs naturally with our outdoor mezuzah cases.

The included extra-strong double-sided mounting tape makes installation straightforward on smooth surfaces, with no nails and no drilling. Anyone comparing brown mezuzah covers will find this one unusual in being rated for exposed exterior entrances rather than sheltered doorways only.

Brown Aluminum Mezuzah Scroll Guidance

This mezuzah case is built to hold a kosher mezuzah scroll up to 5 inches. The aluminum body and sealed chamber protect the parchment, but the mitzvah (מִצְוָה, commandment) itself depends on the kosher klaf (קְלָף, parchment) placed inside, handwritten by a certified sofer STaM. A case on its own, however well made, is not yet a mezuzah.

Outer height and scroll size are never the same number. This case measures 5 1/2 inches on the outside and the closure takes up the difference, which is why it is listed for a 5-inch scroll. When you are between sizes, size down. A parchment forced into a chamber that is fractionally too short will crack its letters, and a cracked letter makes the scroll invalid.

If you need a scroll, our kosher mezuzah scrolls are listed by parchment height so you can match one directly, and insertion is free when you buy the scroll together with the case. We roll the klaf, wrap it airtight, place it in the chamber and seal the back.

For installation supplies, our mezuzah tape and adhesives collection covers wider and stronger options for textured or awkward surfaces.

Modern Waterproof Brown Aluminum Outdoor Mezuzah Design

The engraved Shin is the only ornament on the case, and that restraint is the point. The letter stands for Shaddai (שַׁדַּי), a Name of God read traditionally as an acronym for Shomer Daltot Yisrael, Guardian of the doorways of Israel. It is cut into the face rather than applied to it, so there is nothing to lift, chip or corrode. This piece sits with the rest of our aluminum mezuzah cases and our modern mezuzah cases.

  • Brown aluminum body: Warm and matte, made to disappear into wood and darker trim
  • Engraved Shin: Cut into the face in a contrasting lighter tone, legible from a distance
  • Fully waterproof: Rated for exposed exterior entrances, not only sheltered doorways
  • Slim rounded profile: 0.6 inches wide, clearing door frames with a narrow reveal
  • Made in Israel: Produced in Israel rather than generically imported
  • Extra-strong mounting tape: Included, so no nails and no drilling

Where to Place a Brown Aluminum Mezuzah

Because this case is rated for exposed exterior entrances, it handles the doorways most cases cannot: a front door with no porch, a side gate, a patio door, a garden entrance that takes direct rain. It is equally at home indoors, and the brown finish is the natural match for a stained interior door, a study, or a home office where a white case would read as clinical.

The mezuzah goes on the right doorpost as you enter, in the lower part of the upper third, which on a standard door is roughly shoulder height. Ashkenazi custom slants the top inward toward the room; most Sephardic communities affix it straight. Our guide to putting up a mezuzah covers the blessing and the placement in full.

One practical note for any exterior doorway: heat and moisture are hard on parchment even inside a sealed case, so an outdoor scroll should be checked by a sofer more often than an indoor one. Halacha calls for a home's mezuzot to be examined twice every seven years, and outdoor placements are worth doing more frequently than that.

Get Mezuzahs for Your Entire Home!

Jewish tradition places a mezuzah on nearly every doorway of the home, not only the front door. Bedrooms, the kitchen, a study and the back door all take one, which is why most families build their collection a few doors at a time. Our guide to which rooms need a mezuzah works through which doorways are obligated, and the full range of mezuzot is organised by size, material and colour so a second case is easy to match to the first.
