This is self-adhesive mezuzah tape, 3/4 inch wide, trimmed with scissors so it sits flush behind the case. It matters on a small mezuzah, where an untrimmed strip shows from the side. On many medium mezuzah cases four inches covers most of the flat backing in one piece.

What makes it a mezuzah is the mezuzah klaf (קְלָף, parchment) inside, not the cover. The tape still has to hold that cover securely for the mitzvah (מִצְוָה, commandment).

Material matters as much as length. A sealed wood mezuzah takes adhesive; a raw or oiled back will not.

How to Put Up a Mezuzah with 4-Inch Mounting Tape

1. Confirm the case back is flat and sealed first.
2. Slide the mezuzah scroll in first if the case loads from the back.
3. Seal the back with the panel the case came with so the klaf (קְלָף, parchment) stays protected.
4. Cut the strip to miss the scroll opening, cap, or curve.
5. Wipe the doorpost and let it dry. Dust, grit, or flaking paint stops the bond.

7. Place it on the right as you walk in, angled inward for Ashkenazi custom or straight per minhag (מִנְהָג, custom).
8. Pull the liner off, press hard down the strip, then test that it holds.

Choosing the Right Mezuzah Case, Klaf, and Mounting Method

Length is not the deciding factor in a mezuzah installation. Case weight, backing shape, material, surface texture, doorpost condition, and exposure decide whether adhesive is right.
